Watching Meta for a Short — Here's the Setup - 7/1/2026

📍 In this episode: Larry's out today, so Eric and Clint take the desk — and they come in with a clear thesis: yesterday's big S&P rally was purely mechanical quarter-end buying, and the algos shut off the moment the market closed. The average stock was actually down on the day. Market breadth was 290 down versus 210 up inside the S&P 500. That's not a bull move — that's a window dressing job. From there, they break down what's actually happening beneath the surface of the Mag Seven. Google and Tesla are holding up. Meta and Microsoft are drifting, and Meta's pre-market 6% pop on news that it's building a cloud business to sell excess AI compute gives Eric and Clint exactly the short setup they were looking for — a test of the 50-day moving average near 600, with a breakdown level to watch at 530 to 535. They also flag the macro setup heading into tomorrow's non-farm payrolls number. Job openings are ticking higher, the two-year yield has been rising, and the last time a strong jobs report came out, the Nasdaq dropped 4.6%. Eric draws the parallel to the yield curve tobogganing into late 2021 — and what happened next. On the options side, Eric maps out an iron condor structure for the day with the put spreads anchored well below the eight-day moving average, explains why the 38-point straddle isn't paying much, and walks through exactly why he's avoiding zero DTE today in favor of a cleaner range play. First day of the second half. The question on the table: was yesterday a clean breakout, or is the market about to hand it all back? 🕒 Timestamps: 2:00 - Larry's Out — Clint and Eric Hold It Down 2:31 - Yesterday's Rally Was Mechanical — Here's the Proof 8:26 - Meta Rips 6% Pre-Market — Short or Chase? 12:10 - Drawing the Line on Meta's Chart 14:58 - Gold Trade Closed for 175% — What's Next 17:54 - Setting Up the Straddle for Today's Open 24:32 - Jobs Report Tomorrow — Good News May Be Bad News 27:30 - The Yield Curve Is Telling a 2021 Story 30:57 - Strong Jobs Number Already Priced In? 33:34 - Final Trades: Meta, Micron, and the Range Play 👤About Larry Benedict Larry Benedict, a 40-year trading veteran and former billionaire hedge fund manager, delivered a 20-year winning streak to his clients through some of the worst market meltdowns.
